Septa Trolley Strikes Tree

Springfield Fire Company was dispatched on Thursday, July 31st, at 09:07 hours to the Septa Trolley tracks between Woodland Avenue and Thomson Avenue for an Accident involving a trolley.  Upon arrival of Chief 44-9 and TAC 44, Septa employees were advising that a trolley had struck a tree on the tracks and that there were injured passengers on the trolley.

Personnel from TAC 44 and Rescue 44 walked approximately a 1/4 mile down the tracks to the location of the trolley and started evaluating the scene for hazards.  With electrical wires down, emergency personnel were advised by Septa employees that power was secured.  The Septa trolley had struck a tree that had fallen across the tracks.

EMS personnel from Ambulance 44-7, Ambulance 14-7 and Medic 106 assisted on the scene along with Springfield Police.  After evaluating the passenegers,  only three passengers needed medical attention.  The non-injured passengers were assisted off the trolley and assisted down the trolley tracks to Thomson Avenue.

The injured passengers were treated on the scene, moved to Utility 44, which was able to locate close to the accident scene using a maintenance road along the side of the trolley line, and secured for transportation down the tracks to Thomson Avenue.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 10:37 hours.  The scene was turned over to Septa personnel.

Units operating on the scene were:  TAC 44, Rescue 44, Utility 44, Ambulance 44-7, Ambulance 44-7A, Medic 106, Medic 106-9, Ambulance 14-7, Ambulance 03-7, Springfield Police, Springfield Fire Police and Septa Transit Police.
