Vehicle Starts Dwelling Fire in Broomall, One Springfield Firefighter Injured


Springfield Fire Company was dispatched along with Swarthmore Fire Company - RIT (Company 14) to assist Broomall Fire Company (Company 53) on Tuesday, August 19th, at 13:13 hours to Jamestown Road and Marshall Drive, Marple Township for a Building Fire.  County 911 initially dispatched Broomall Fire Company for an Vehicle into a House with possible fire.

Units from Company 53 started initial fire attack and worked to cut off the spread of fire inside the residence.  Firefighters from Engine 44-1 assisted with ventilation on the first floor, checking for fire extension and fire attack on the second floor.  Firefighters from Tower 44 assisted with laddering the dwelling and roof ventilation.

With warm weather conditions and limited manpower, 53 Command requested a second and third alarm for additional units from Companies 58 (Bon Air), Company 23 (Media - 2nd RIT), Company 73 (Rose Tree), Company 41 (Newtown Square), Company 51 (South Media) and Canteen 47 (Feltonville).  EMS units from Ambulance 53-7 and 53-7A (Marple), Medic 53-7B, Medic 53, Medic 106 (Springfield) Ambulance 44-7, Rehab 34 (Llanarch), Ambulance 34-7 and Ambulance 56-7 (Manoa) assisted on the scene.

One firefighter from Springfield was treated at the scene and transported by Ambulance 53-7 to Crozer Chester Medical Center for smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion.

Springfield Firefighters remained on the scene until 16:00 hours.

Firefighters from Company 20 (Garrettford Drexel Hill) and Company 43 (Holmes) provided stand by coverage at Station 44 during the incident.

A vehicle operator lost control of their car and struck the dwelling in the area of the natural gas meter attached to the outside of the home.
