On Sunday June 14, 2021 at 629 am Springfield Fire Company responded to assist Broomall Fire Company on accident with entrapment on 476 at 5.5 South. Units arrived and found a vehicle had hit the rear of a tractor trailer and the operator was trapped in the car. Crews used hydraulic rescue tools to remove the door s and roof of the car. EMS transported the driver to an area hospital. Crews were on scene for a little over an hour and a half. PSP is handling the incident.
On Saturday June 13, 2021 at 1055 am Springfield Fire Company responded to assist Broomall (53) for an accident with injury and fire on I476 at 5.1 North. On arrival units found a tractor trailer and two passenger vehicles with heavy damage. There was on person trapped in a vehicle. Broomall and Springfield firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to remove the door so EMS units could take the patient to an area hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening inquires. Crews used several buckets of oil dry to contain fluid run off. The scene was handled by the State Police Police and companies were available in an hour.
On May 4 at 227 am Springfield Fire Company along with Bon Air (Engine 58) and Manoa (RIT 56) responded to a report of smoke in the home in the 400 block of Ridge Lane. The occupants reported that the smoke detector woke them up and the house was full of smoke. Deputy 44 (Foran) arrived and confirmed the report and requested a working fire dispatch. That brought Ladder 20 (Garretford-Drexel Hill), Quint 73 (Rose Tree) and RIT 23 (Media). Engine 44’s crew found the fire in the kitchen area near an appliance. The fire was quickly extinguished. Power was secured to the home. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the township fire marshal. The company was back in service around 430 am.
The officers and members of Springfield Fire Company regret to announce the passing of Joseph Carroll on May 18, 2021. Joe joined the company in 1964 after serving our country in the US Army where he became an accomplished boxer. Joe was an electrician by trade, always willing to help out anyone. Joe is survived by his wife Kathy and several other family members. His viewing will be Monday May 24, 2021 at O’Leary Funeral Home, 640 East Springfield Road, Springfield, Pa. 19064 from 9 am to 1030 am. His funeral mass will be at St. Francis of Assisi, 136 Saxer Avenue, Springfield, Pa. 19064 at 11 am. Burial will be private.
